How to Save Your Plants From Being Overwatered ?

Too much of a thing can sometimes be a bad thing. This is no exception when it comes to overwatering your plants. Don’t be scared that they might not get enough water, but get to know your plants well.

Too much water will cause your plant an early death. In fact, plants are excellent communicators, so they give signs when they are not treated the right way. Let’s take a look at the warning signs of overwatering and what you can do to avoid them:

Warning signs

The most important issue with overwatering is connected to the roots. Without having strong roots, the plant cannot take in nutrients and grow. Too much water covers the roots and suffocates the plant. The water works as a barrier and doesn’t let any fertilizer to reach the root. As time passes, the root will rot. Here are the signs that indicate you might be overwatering:

1. Wilting

Wilting might be associated that you give your plants too little water, but the difference is in the soil. If your soil is moist and yet your plant is wilted, then probably the problem is too much water.

2. Yellow leaves

If you notice your leaves growing slowly, and they are yellowish, then you should probably stop giving them too much water.

3. Tips of leaves turn brown

Brown leaves can also be a sign of overwatering. If you are not watering enough the brown leaves will feel dehydrated and crisp. If you water too much, the leaves will be soft and limp. So, the way you can tell the difference is how the leaves feel.

What you can do

You don’t have to be afraid if your plant is drowned. If the plant survives, in it should look really better in about a week if you follow these tips:

1. Move to the shade

Plants in shade use less water. Even if the plant is a sun-loving plant, move it away from sunlight until the water situation is under control. After you stabilized, move it back.

2. Allow the pot to drain

Make sure the pot has good drainage holes. You should allow the water to escape as much as possible. If there are not good enough holes, then create some, or repot the plant altogether. Don’t allow the plant to remain the standing water since this leads to death.

3. Create air pockets The roots of the plant need air. Create air pockets by shifting the pot and tapping it on its side in order for the soil ball to be loosened. By doing this you will allow the roots to receive the air that was trapped by the water.

4. Allow soil to dry

You should avoid watering the plant until you feel the ground dry to touch. However, don’t let it get too dry since this can also kill it.
